Birding

The potential for ornithology in Africa anywhere south of the equator is obviously very high. Notable are the flamingo flocks in east, central and southern Africa, particularly in the area of the annually flooded saltpans of Botswana, and the soda ash lakes of Kenya. However most of the coastal and highland regions offer an enormous diversity of bird life, and throughout the region there are specialist tour operators and guiding companies who offer unique insights into their own very specific regions. Naturally it is South Africa that is again the leader in this regard. From the coasts of Mozambique to the Kafue Flats of Zambia, to the riparian forests of Kwazulu/Natal, and the mountain regions of Chimanimani and the Drakensberg, there is a specialist, and an in between an almost unlimited potential to indulge in this pass-time.
