Travel in the central African region has evolved and advanced much since Hemmingway first wrote The Green Hills of Africa, and since Karen Blixen set the virtual standard with her richly textured autobiography, Out of Africa.

Shades of her colonial heritage are still very easy to find in Africa, and most commercial tour operators try by one means or another to reflect it. These tend often to be little vignettes of nostalgia that offer a stylish platform for game viewing, and a means to touch the wild in considerable comfort. They merely scratch the surface of all that Africa has to offer the contemporary traveller, however, for these days Africa is known as much for music, culture, art and society as it is for big game. African cities are colourful and vibrant, her coasts rich in tone and texture, while her lakes, rivers and mountains are a magnet for thrill seekers and adventurers of all shades.

From the wine regions of the Cape to the mountains of the equator, from coast to coast, there is a world of interest to encounter and explore in Africa, and in this section I will offer a quick sketch of the landscape south of the equator. Anything that captures your interest, I would be happy to explore with you further.
